Salon System nail expert Jaz Moger has created this beautiful winter-inspired Negative Space Heart design using her favourite Gellux Mini Shades.  Recreate it at home with our step-by-step. Negative Space Heart Nails

If you don’t have Gellux products to hand you can substitute them for others.  If you are using non-gel polish, remember to use a good base coat and to let each coat set fully before moving on to the next step.

Step One

Prep the nails. File to a soft square shape, push back the cuticle using the Salon System Cuticle Handy Manicure Tool (£4.95 +vat) and buff the nail plate. Cleanse nails with Gellux Prep + Wipe (£4.20 +vat), apply a coat of Gellux Builder Gel in Warm Pink (£11.95 +vat) and cure for 60 seconds.

Step Two

Apply 2-3 coats of the Gellux Mini Black Cherry (£7.25 +vat) on to the thumb and ring finger. Cure between each layer.

Step Three

Using a fine liner nail art brush, paint a French tip with Mini Black Cherry on the index finger. This may need 2-3 coats. Cure for 60 seconds.

Step Four

Using Mini Black Cherry and your fine liner nail art brush, paint a line vertically down the middle of the little nail. Next, paint two lines across to start creating the checkerboard and cure.

Step Five

Fill in the checkerboard with the same shade and cure between each layer. This may take 2-3 coats.

Step Six

Once again apply Mini Black Cherry and begin to paint the negative space heart on the middle finger. I like to start with two lines in the middle of the nail and then draw each side of the heart and cure.

Step Seven

Next, start to fill in the outside of the heart and cure.

Step Eight

Paint another coat around the outside of the heart using Mini Black Cherry and cure.

Step Nine

Using Gellux Mini Really Red (£7.25 +vat), paint an outline around the negative space heart and cure. Next, using a dotting tool and fine liner nail art brush, create the small heart at the cuticle on the index finger and cure.

Step Ten

To finish the look, apply a coat of Gellux Clear Base/Top Coat (£11.95 +vat), cure and then wipe over with Prep + Wipe. Finally, finish by applying Gellux Nail & Cuticle Oil (£4.35 +vat).
