Industry News

The Government have finally launched their consultation into a licencing scheme for non-surgical cosmetic (aesthetic) procedures in England.  This includes botox, fillers and laser treatments. Proposals include restrictions on who can perform certain high-risk procedures and age limits for those undergoing cosmetic procedures.

Beauty professionals can access the full consultation document here. It outlines a proposal to divide procedures into a red, amber and green traffic light system, based on how complex the procedure is.  One concern is that many treatments commonly performed by beauty therapists with advanced training have been given an amber classification.  This means they could only be performed with the oversight of a healthcare professional, if the proposed classifications go ahead.

As the Government’s first ever consultation on treatments, this will be used to shape a new licensing scheme for practitioners and cosmetic businesses which operate in England. The consultation document asks for opinions on whether any treatments should be reclassified, so make sure you have your say, via the online consultation form.  The consultation period ends on 28th October 2023.
