Bright, fun and unapologetically pink, Barbiecore is one of the big trends that has exploded everywhere this summer. With the long-awaited live-action film now in the cinemas we look at how you can make your makeup world a little more Barbie.
A playful, inclusive and empowering attitude to make-up, UK brand Glisten Cosmetics is the ultimate go-to for that Margot Robbie vibe. Offering a huge range of cruelty-free, vegan cosmetics, it’s the affordable – and ethical – way to channel your inner Barbie this Summer.
Barbie and lipgloss are a match made in heaven – especially when it’s one as pink and sparkly as Pinky Promise Glis Gloss Lipgloss (£12). Ultra-moisturising and a breeze to apply thanks to the large wand, it’s a wearable way to work Barbiecore into your everyday style.
Strawberry Wet Liner® Eyeliner (£7) colour-pop make-up rules with this trend, and it doesn’t get any cooler than this ‘glows-under-UV’ strawberry water-activated eyeliner
For the ultimate colour pay off, look no further than Rose Pink Spectra Paint (£9). This unique, multi-use formula can be used on lips, cheeks and eyes for fun, pretty-in-pink make-up looks that make a statement.
Give your lashes an eye-popping makeover with this super-pigmented Spectra Lash Fuchsia Mascara (£9.50). The bold fuchsia shade creates a showstopping look, while the lengthening formula gives you the kind of long, fluttering lashes any self-respecting Barbie would be proud of.
NYX Cosmetics are also team Barbie, with their limited edition Barbie™ Collection, an official film collaboration. As well as lashes, lip glosses and a flip phone mirror (♥) this includes two credit card sized Mini Palettes which are definitely collectible items for every Barbie and Ken. These eyeshadow palettes even have a mini butter gloss attached. Chose from It’s a Barbie Party! in shades from neutral peaches through to bright fuschia and Turn Up The Ken-Ergy! with bright pops of mustard, lilac, turquoise and fuschia.
The Barbie Jumbo Eye Pencil Kit features two new shades of vibrant pink and electric blue crayons. This dynamic duo offers jumbo possibilities. Use an eyeliner, eyeshadow or as an eyeshadow primer.
PÜR Cosmetics also have an official collab out, encompassing powder, palettes, lips and mascara. PÜR X Barbie™ Glow & Shine – Web Exclusive Highlighter And Lip Gloss Duo Bundle (£50) gives you their Confident Glow Signature Illuminating Highlighter, a highly blendable powder duo with a buttery-soft formula that delivers a unique to you glow and a pop of subtle shimmer courtesy of the PÜR X Barbie™ Signature High-Shine Lip Gloss, choose from Boss Gloss, a divine pale pink shimmer, or Girl Gloss, a gorgeous neutral champagne sparkle.
If you prefer a matte lip to a gloss, opt for the delicately hued, PÜR x Barbie Semi-Matte lipstick (£21) available in two shades. CEO is a bold red, while Innovator is a brown tone.
The Sugarpill x Barbie™ Collection has been a hit, with several shades of their limited edition lip glosses ($18) and jewel-encrusted lashes ($9) selling out already. However there are some still available, including the gorgeous Malibu Sunrise gloss, which is a very wearable juicy peach tone, perfect for those who aren’t big pink fans. The Sun-Kisssed shade is a semi-sheer apricot with gold sparkles – perfect for beach bound evenings.
ICONIC London have also embraced the Barbie way, their pink offerings include newest launch Kissed By the Sun in Playtime (£25) a three-in-one multi use cheek product, use to bronze, highlight and blush.
Lip Plumping Gloss in Peek-a-Boo (£21) is the perfect combination of non-sticky gloss and plumping power, while Lustre Lip Oil in Sugar Mama (£22) is a more subtle option. Makeup meets skincare with this hybrid giving the high shine of a gloss with the moisture of a balm.
Sheer Blush in Pink Power (£21) this liquid blusher gives a soft-focus, sheer, watercolour finish
Perfect for the Barbiecore aesthetic is Face Lace Awesome Blossom (£22.95). The super bright 3D Flowers glow under UV light, and with Metallic studs acting as trendy, glamorous stamen it’s an on-trend, but ever so unique, statement makeup look.
And if you want Barbie-pink brushes to really pop in your makeup kit, then look no further than Shelen’s Cherry Punch 10-piece set (£30). Vegan and cruelty free, the bristles are a delicate blend of premium synthetic fibres that are densely packed with luxury super soft bristles. Mani Pedi
You can’t forget your nails with this look either, Barbie is always polished from head to toe.
ORLY Burst Your Bubblegum (£13.50) is the perfect pink neon shade that Barbie would love.
While & Other Stories, have a whole range of Nail Colours (£6) from the brightest fuchsia pink to a more delicate subtle rose with a bit of sparkle. Forever Mallow is a soft pink, while Fiery Fuschia and Vivid Cardinal are stronger, deeper tones.
Purple Verve is a super bright, neon pink and Incroyable Glow is the softest, subtle pink that is an everyday nail staple.
For longer-lasting nail colour try Mylee’s at home gel mani shades Plastic Duo (£14.50) to try in your dreamhouse. The hot pink Venice Beach shade will have you rollerblading in lycra, then saddle up for a star-spangled rodeo with glitzy Rhinestone Cowgirl. Accompanying nail stickers will finish off your look with even more light-hearted fun. Imagination, gel nails are your creation.
Self Tan is a must for the Barbie and Ken vibe
Not pink, but still essential for the trend, is a golden glow, and we have Ryan Gosling’s Ken to thank for an upsurge in searches on how to achieve his tanned look.
Try Isle of Paradise self-tan, which make-up artists used to achieve Ken’s bronzed style on screen. Their new Express Mousse (£21.95) will get you glowing in just 30 minutes. This is a week on the beach in half an hour. Packed with colour-correcting actives and body loving benefits including hyaluronic acid, glycerin, vitamin C and vitamin B5, it provides a happily hydrated sun-kissed glow after 30 minutes, a medium tan result after 2 hours or a deep bronze in as little as 4 hours.
Blonde Locks
We definitely can’t omit Barbie’s crowning glory. Searches for Barbie Blonde Hair have also increased by 400%, according to Google UK, with TikTok views reaching 5.9 milion.
Celebrity hairstylist, and Bblonde Brand Educator, Jason Collier breaks down why this blonde is so iconic, and how you can achieve it at home with the UK’s Number 1 Blonding Brand.
“Barbie is one of the most iconic blonde symbols, and that hair shade is a staple blonde that has stood the test of time. Barbie Blonde can take a bit of maintenance, but it’s a shade that suits all skin tones and gives a more relaxed feel to blonde hair that can be dressed up if the occasion permits,” explained Jason
The Barbie Blonde shade is light, clean, and bright with gold tones, so for this look, you need a full head of bleach blonde hair. For those starting with darker hair this will need to be lifted in steps using the Jerome Russell Bblonde Maximum Ultra Blonding Kit (£7.99)
Then you need a gorgeous bright shade like Jerome Russell Bblonde Permanent Hair Colour Lightest Blonde 10.02, (£8.99). For semi-permanent colour try the Jerome Russell Bblonde Semi Permanent White Gold Toner (£4.99). To avoid brassiness, top up your toner at around 6-8 weeks and use purple pigment shampoos and masks to keep your hair looking healthier longer.
Tangle Teezer’s The Ultimate Detangler Totally Pink Barbie™ Brush (£14) can help level up your haircare game as the brand have given their Ultimate Detangler a totally pink makeover this Summer. Chose from the large version or the The Ultimate Detangler Mini Totally Pink Barbie™ Brush (£10.50). The brush’s best-in-class, patented two-tiered teeth softly but confidently detangle vulnerable shower-fresh hair, amounting in less breakage.
