An independent business, owned and run by an entrepreneurial black woman, Kutemwa Skin‘s natural skincare is authentically formulated with particular focus on skin of colour. Embracing an ancient philosophy that those blessed with wealth and knowledge should use them for good, they utilise traditional ingredients passed down through generations.

Founded by Besa Musama, whose own dry skin was soothed by traditional botanical ingredients, Kutemwa – a Zambian word for ‘Love’ – encapsulates Besa’s commitment to valuing ourselves every single day. Self-care is an act of pure love, and what better way to express that than through the ritualistic practice of skincare using traditional African ingredients that are simple, effective, and kind to the planet?

The brand’s ethos is to give back to communities who are in need, which is why they have teamed up with two programmes in the African countries who have inspired them.

They have committed to provide support to children in their pre-school with a portion of their profits being donated for items such as desks and chairs at St Joseph’s School for the Deaf who offer education and care for children with hearing impairments.

The second programme being funded by Kutemwa Skin’s profits is The Kogi Baby Feeding Programme. This is a community support programme by the Catholic Sisters of the Holy Rosary, for babies whose mothers passed away during childbirth and are taken care of by the extended family. The Sisters provide milk and other nutritional food supplements every two weeks to ensure that the babies are growing well and healthy.

The brand’s product range includes Radiance Moisturiser (£34), formulated with sunflower oil which is highly moisturising, rich in vitamin E to soothe skin and strengthen the skin barrier and Radiance ACE Serum (£22) made with aloe vera, which is renowned for its soothing, antibacterial properties, particularly important for black skin which tends to be more susceptible to injury or inflammation.

O&M (Original & Mineral) is an Australian haircare brand that focuses on replacing harsh chemicals in hair products with active natural minerals and essential oils. They aim to change the hair game and introduce natural ingredients as the norm for all hair care and styling products.  Their newest innovation, the CØR.color Range, represents a huge leap forward for the hair industry, with the introduction of a progressive new colour technology–Molecular Blend Technology (MBT). This revolutionary colouring system pre-links base and reflect colour pigments, allowing them to develop more effectively and evenly, giving superior coverage while minimising the risk of scalp irritation. CØR.color is the answer to an industry-wide problem of increasing chemical sensitivity while pleasing consumers on the lookout for ever-more effective natural beauty solutions, and allowing colourists to achieve stunning results with no compromise. The innovative vegan formula is also free from Ammonia, PPD and Resorcinol and gives greater grey coverage without ammonia.  Available from sbs-hair.
