Held at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Sunday 22nd and Monday 23rd May, Beauty UK welcomed thousands of beauty professionals, salon owners and students. It was the first event of its kind to take place in the Midlands for three years.
Stages
Alongside Hair UK, Barber UK, and Holistic Health, this year’s exhibition was packed with educational opportunities, including the Salon Owners’ Business Forum, ThinkTree Hub CPD Seminar Programme, Hair & Barber Stage and Holistic Stage. Show attendees were able to see the latest techniques in action and enjoy motivational talks from leading industry experts, leaving them feeling inspired.
Warpaint Extra Makeup Stage
An exciting addition this year was our Warpaint Extra Makeup Stage, which featured panel discussions and makeup demonstrations by professional artists. Hosted by our publisher, Emma Rutherford, the stage covered everything from editorial and creative to fashion and bodypainting.
Sunday’s sessions were kicked off by Kelly Odell whose demo title was ‘Sexy, Wearable, On-trend, Soft Glam’. Leicester-based Kelly covers all styles of makeup including bodypaint and introduced the common Instagram soft glam style of makeup that suits most people of all ages on her model.
Second up, Sean Maloney showed us celebrity makeup artistry secrets and created a statement celebrity glam while giving an insight into the celebrity make up secrets, must haves and current red-carpet trends. With over eight years’ experience as a celebrity make-up artist, Sean demonstrated contouring, strobing, baking and created a flawless finish.
The third demo of the day was Wearable Glam from My Rev MUA, Lucy Hart, showcasing her signature glam look perfect for any occasion. Lucy has over 10 years’ experience in the industry working on brand campaigns with celebrities and influencers.
Finally, our last session on Sunday was award-winning makeup artist, Victoria Louise MUA, who demoed an eye-catching to try at home. Victoria is the current Makeup Artist of the Year winning at the recent English Hair & Beauty Awards.
A key feature of the Warpaint Extra Makeup Stage is a panel discussion at the centre of each day. Sunday’s panel featured Sean Maloney, Kelly Odell and Victoria Louise who talked about Life as a Freelancer and gave helpful hints and tips to audience members from their own experiences.
Monday started with a geometric Bodypaint masterclass from award-winning body painter and educator, Cat Finlayson with model Jade Webb. Illustrating commercial body art techniques, Cat demonstrated how to use stencils and other techniques for marketable body art.
Our second session came from Kate Monroe, who worked magic with her airbrush. Taking creative makeup to the next level, Warpaintopia 2018 competition winner, Kate, showed the audience how to produce stunning work – in just 40 minutes.
Next up was Monday’s panel discussion featuring Kate, along side alumni from BBC TV’s Glow Up, chatting about Harnessing the Power of Social Media in a makeup artist’s career. Also featuring Leigh Easthope (Season 1), James Mac Inerney (Season 2) and Jack Oliver (Season 3), the quartet talked candidly about the positives – and pitfalls – of a life online.
Next, James demonstrated how he creates one of his trademark hyper-creative, drag-inspired looks. With lots of opportunities to ask James questions while he worked, there was plenty of lively chatter along with stunning freehand work.
The last demo featured Jack Oliver with Leigh Easthope as their model. Jack revealed flawless male grooming on the Warpaint Extra stand in the final session of the show. Over the weekend, the stand also played host to Bodypaint demos from Cat Finlayson and Jennie Roberts turning model Grace into an English dragon, and Emily Prendergast‘s reptile paint on model Oliver, and glamourous prosthetics looks from Kelly Odell.
We were hugely fortunate to have professional photographer, Graham Cann, on hand to shoot the looks our speakers create and we thank him for his wonderful images.
Next year, Beauty UK will return to the Coventry Building Society Arena on Sunday 21st and Monday 22nd May. To stay up-to-date on show announcements and to purchase tickets, visit BeautyUKShow.com.
