Whether you are celebrating with your valentine, galantine, having a day of self-care or studiously ignoring it all, we are spoiling you with another fab nail design. This one is by Salon System nail expert Jaz Moger who has created a Valentine Checkerboard Nails step by step using the Gellux Collection.
If you don’t have Gellux products to hand you can substitute them for others. If you are using non-gel polish, remember to use a good base coat and to let each coat set fully before moving on to the next step.
Step One
Prepare the nails by filing to shape, pushing back the cuticle and buffing the nail plate. Cleanse nails with Gellux Prep + Wipe (£7.15 +vat), one coat of Gellux Builder Gel in Light Pink (£11.95 +vat) and cure for 60 seconds.
Step Two
Using Gellux Slumber Party (£11.95 +vat) and a fine liner nail art brush, paint two lines vertically down each nail and cure.
Step Three
Next paint a line vertically across the middle and cure
Step Four
Then paint a line either side of the middle line and cure.
Step Five
Start to fill in the checkerboard still using Slumber Party. I like to start at the top.
Step Six
Continue filling in the checkerboard, leaving every other square blank.
Step Seven
Once the whole board is filled in and cured, apply a second coat and cure again
Step Eight
Using Gellux Fri-Yay (£11.95 +vat) and a dotting tool, create two dots in one of the squares to start the top of the heart.
Step Nine
Using a fine liner brush, join up beneath the dots to create the full heart and then create another micro heart and cure.
Step Ten
Finish the design by applying two coats of Gellux Super Shiny Top Coat (£11.95 +vat) and cure between each layer. Once cured, wipe over the nails with Prep + Wipe and oil the cuticles with Gellux Nail & Cuticle Oil (£4.35 +vat).
Salon System Gellux is available from wholesalers nationwide.
