Dating back to the Golden Age of Hollywood, the Makeup Artists and Hair Stylists Guild (IATSE, Local 706) was incorporated in 1937. Today’s diverse membership includes over 2,400 make-up artists and hair stylists who have created the looks for Hollywood’s most memorable characters and stars of stage, screen, television and now the Internet, as well as advertising, all types of theatrical productions and Disneyland theme parks. Their awards – know fondly as The MUAHS, are traditionally the first of the big events each year.
The Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild (MUAHS, IATSE Local 706) has announced nominations for the 9th Annual MUAHS Guild Awards. Representing a spectrum of outstanding achievements in makeup and hair styling artistry in motion pictures, television, commercials, and live theatre, the winners will be honoured at the MUAHS gala at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday, February 19, 2022. At the live event, Emmy and Oscar award winning makeup artist Michele Burke – best known for her work on the Mission Impossible and Austin Powers series – and Joy Zapata, Emmy-winning hair stylist known for her work on A Star is Born, Wonder Woman 1984 and Star Trek: Nemesis, will receive the 2022 MUAHS Lifetime Achievement Awards for makeup and hairstyling respectively. The Vanguard Award will be presented to makeup artist Christina Smith for her more than 40 years of iconic work in the industry.
