Haircuts 4 Homeless launched a Crowd Funder this week, to raise funds to print a black and white coffee table book, Hear Me, See Me, with photographs shot by Jack Eames over the last 7 months. The book aims to humanise the face of homelessness by challenging stigmas and stereotypes via honest, thought-provoking imagery and words to acknowledge that the smallest of actions can have the greatest effect.
100% of the sale of the book goes back to the charity, who recently lost lottery funding and need to raise funds to keep going. Almost 100,000 households were recorded as homeless at the start of 2021 so their work is still really important. To prebuy your copy of the book click here.
In June 2020, as movements like Pull Up for Change and #BuyBlack pushed for diversity and institutional restructuring, BAO launched its remote accelerator programme for Black and LatinX beauty and wellness start-ups. The programme works extensively with Black and LatinX founders and start-ups to disrupt the status quo and create meaningful relationships between Black and LatinX brands and beauty and wellness consumers. Black Beauty Matters and over the next ten years, BAO will launch 100 Black and LatinX beauty and wellness brands that embrace the physical attributes of Black and LatinX communities.
Twice a year, five start-ups receive mentorship, brand development, legal services, financial literacy, sales, marketing, strategy guidance, and networking through the accelerator programme. BAO then provides graduates with seed investment and the opportunity to partner with a third-party manufacturer, as well as virtual shelf space on BAO Universe.
