Top beauty brands Clarins, Eucerin and Bioderma are supporting the not-for-profit UK #SunPoverty campaign to give high factor sun cream to kids on free school meals. For every Clarins, Eucerin and Bioderma suncream bought at online beauty retailer Escentual.com they will donate a #SunPoverty lotion to charity (over 30,000 units). The retailer will also donate one more for every£6.95 #SunPoverty kids suncream sold on their site.
Skin cancer is the fastest growing cancer in the UK and cases have more than doubled since the 90s, and the biggest cause of the increase is sunburn in childhood. Skincare expert Caroline Hirons is supporting the campaign, she said: “Skin cancer is very real, extremely dangerous and on the increase – that’s why I’m supporting Escentual’s #SunPoverty campaign. 80% of sun damage happens before the age of 18. Escentual’s initiative to abolish VAT on children’s sun cream, educate young people on sun safety, and donate thousands of broad-spectrum SPF50+ to children in struggling families is incredibly important.”

They are a small charity and have to prioritise assistance to those who need it most urgently. Priority will be given to households where only one adult (working within the industry) provides the only income to the household (e.g. if you live with your partner who will still receive an employed wage, priority will be given to single parent families whose only income is dependent on their hair/beauty industry wage). Visit their website for more information and to make an application.
