Hourglass has created an evocative campaign video to launch Confession Red 0 (£39).  This striking true red lipstick, that launched this week, contains a patent-pending vegan replacement for carmine – the industry’s standard red pigment made from crushed female insects.  Up to 1,000 insects are used to make just one single traditional red lipstick bullet, because carmine provides a true red hue with a vibrancy and boldness that is difficult to capture by other means.  Over the course of 3 years, Hourglass conducted 175 colour experiments, tested 36 pigment combinations, and developed 19 full formulations before arriving at Red 0.  Confession Red 0 symbolises Hourglass’ commitment to animal welfare: zero animal byproducts, zero animals harmed.  Available from hourglasscometics, spacenk, cultbeauty, John Lewis and netaporter.
