Beauty giant Avon have just launched Adapt a new skincare system designed specifically to support women through the hormonal effects of perimenopause and menopause.  With common symptoms including hot flushes, night sweats, anxiety and changes to skin condition such as collagen loss, dryness and tingling, the three-product Adapt range harnesses innovative ingredients that support the skin’s natural ability to deal with stress and is designed to help women manage fluctuations in their skin.  The range contains:

Adapt Hydra Rescue Mist (£7), helps to alleviate hot flushes with the help of Tillicora, a plant native to South Asia and found exclusively in the Avon Adapt range.  This helps to increase hydration, firmness and cool the skin, with 100% of women seeing an instant decrease in skin temperature*. The natural cucumber, geranium oil and sandalwood fragrance helps to ‘cool’ and help calm your mood as well as your skin.  Adapt Hydra Rescue Serum ( £14) works to support dry skin caused by the reduction in oestrogen during perimenopause and menopause, with the support of antioxidant ingredient Turmeric to help calm and soothe the skin.  This lightweight formula can be used throughout the day and over make up to boost skin moisture by 98%.  Adapt Dream Cream (£12), also containing Turmeric, helps to tighten and plump sagging skin to fight the collagen loss experienced in perimenopause and menopause. The fragrance, infused with a natural scent of Jasmine and Lavender, can help with sleep.  The lack of which is a common effect of perimenopause and menopause.  Available now from avon.uk.

College student Katlyn Harvey needs your help.  She is a 3rd year student at South Gloucestershire and Stroud college completing a BA in Specialist Makeup Design.  Her dissertation is based on how the makeup community uses social media within the film/TV and fashion/editorial sectors – and whether there’s a difference between the two.  She has six simple questions that she’d love you all to answer for her and would be hugely grateful for your help.  Her email is katlynharveymakeup@gmail.com and she’d love to hear from you.

Disheartened by the difficulties faced by many beauty businesses as a result a result of the pandemic, Founder of The Silver Fern Group, Haylee Benton has launched free mentorship scheme for salon owners, in the quest to bring them back from the brink.

With her experience in turning struggling beauty businesses into financial successes, Haylee says, “it’s been a hugely difficult year for hair and beauty salons that have faced months of closures followed by further uncertainty as a result of ever-changing lockdown restrictions. As a beauty business owner myself, I understand the challenges of owning a salon –  from problems with cash flow, to staffing, ever rising rents and dips in bookings. Many business owners have spent their bounce back loans and don’t know what to do next. I’m passionate about the industry and want to share my expertise to ensure that salon owners can feel positive moving forward and ensure success in 2021.”

Haylee will be offering once a month opportunities for mentorship from January – salon owners should visit hayleebenton.com to apply

The Hair and Beauty Charity are still working to support those that need their help.  They have had just over £250,000 donated recently from professional beauty expert, Caroline Hirons and the Beauty Backed campaign. They have funds available for those people who do need their help; ask them if you need support.

They are a small charity and have to prioritise assistance to those who need it most urgently.  Priority will be given to households where only one adult (working within the industry) provides the only income to the household (e.g. if you live with your partner who will still receive an ‘employed wage’, priority will be given to single parent families whose only income is dependent on their hair/beauty industry wage).  Visit their website for more information and to make an application.
