Now in its second year at Klagenfurt, the World Bodypainting Festival once again proved to be the platform for stunning creative artistry last month. Artist teams from 53 countries battled it out in 12 categories in front of the international Judging Panel and showed their skills to the thousands of visitors.
Organiser Alex Barendrecht was thrilled with the imagination of the participants, “The artistic level of bodypainting and make-up again was impressively high, the themes were presented in a great way. Many artists implement individuality into their works in a unique and extraordinary way.”
The Brush and Sponge category was particularly strong again this year and the title went to Italian artist, Marzia Bedeschi, who took second place last year. Second and third places went to Sanatan Dinda from India and Germany’s Silke Kirchhoff.
In the Airbrush category, it was a South American sweep with Benoit Bottala from Guadalope repeating his victory from 2017 and Brazil’s Alex Hansen and Columbia’s Miguel Guapacha taking second and third respectively.
The Special Effects category saw victory going to New Zealand’s Sofia Bue, with Hajlaoui Houyam from Belgium taking second while third place went to World Awards newbie Jelena Pidjasa from Latvia.
