Hot off this week’s news – Terry Barber, M.A.C’s Director of Makeup Artistry, may well have makeup running through his veins, and after 25 years as a M.A.C makeup artist, he certainly knows a thing or two about the language of cosmetics. The new Eye See Palette (£49.50) is, he says, “a celebration of the timeless style movements that I have experienced over many decades”. The colours all work alone or paired together, and come in fifteen smouldering shades, from Embark to Naked Lunch. The Palette is limited edition, and exclusive to Selfridges and Selfridges.com.
Aussie brand Jurlique are all about luxury solutions to everyday problems, and they are passionate about defying expectations about what is possible from natural ingredients. Their new botanical cleansers are designed to help skin take on modern life, and include unique blends of botanicals which are handpicked from their own organic farm in the idyllic Adelaide Hills. These botanicals, including Birch, Calendula, and Rosemary, have strong antioxidant properties and help to gently cleanse and protect the skin against environmental aggressors. Because they know all skin is different, the new range comes in a variety of textures: a lush foam, a silky oil, a rich lotion, and a lightweight gel, so you can use Jurlique whatever your preference. The Radiant Skin Foaming Cleanser (£18) contains rosa gallica extract to hydrate and replenish, and quickly dissolves impurities, makeup, and pollution, whilst its natural antioxidants help to protect your skin. The lightly whipped foam contains superfine exfoliating minerals which gently smooth and polish skin to reveal radiance beneath. If you’re looking for something a little richer, the Nourishing Cleansing Oil (£20) transforms on skin into a nourishing cleansing milk which effectively removes even waterproof makeup, impurities, and pollution. The natural seed oils it contains, including the softening black elderflower extract, smooth skin to reveal softer, brighter, and younger looking skin. Whilst both of these are suitable for all skin types, if you have drier skin perhaps reach for the Replenishing Cleansing Lotion (£20), which calms and smooths skin whilst removing impurities and pollution. The marshmallow root extract it contains helps to leave skin looking and feeling clean, smooth and radiant, and is suitable even for sensitive skin. Alternatively, if you struggle with combination skin, the Revitalising Cleansing Gel (£20) purifies and rebalances skin whilst providing hydration thanks to its revitalising botanicals such as peppermint leaf extract. The gorgeously lightweight gel transforms into a rich lather to wash away pollution, excess oils, and any impurities, and leaves skin feeling healthy and fresh. All four are available from Jurlique.co.uk.
We have yet to come across anyone who dislikes the gorgeous Burt’s Bees lipsticks (£9.99), which were recently released in the UK. Offering either glossy or satin finishes, they come in a variety of colours perfect for every situation, and contain nourishing ingredients like red raspberry oil and moringa oil. But what about caring for lips before putting the lipstick on? If you’re after a cruelty-free option, Burt’s Bees might have to be your go-to. Buff away rough, dry skin with their new Conditioning Lip Scrub (£6.99), and follow up with the new Overnight Intensive Lip Treatment (£6.99), which contains a blend of peppermint and jojoba oil, for kissably soft lips which are the perfect canvas for colour. If your lips are in dire need of moisture, try the new Moisturising Lip Mask (£4.99), which instantly hydrates and defines lips with a nourishing blend of all natural ingredients including meadowfoam seed and almond oils. While the mask is available now at Holland and Barrett, we’ll have to wait until August to get our hands on the lip scrub or overnight treatment, both of which will be available at FeelUnique, LookFantastic, and Amazon.
With festival season well and truly upon us, we could all do with more glitter in our lives. Luckily, Karla Cosmetics have launched their Special Effects Glitters (£12 each), which are custom mixed to create unique shades, and hand-made in the UK. The extremely pigmented glitters are designed to give a vinyl finish when combined with Fix Potion (£12). There are two collections – Mythical Creatures and Spirits of Gold – and each contains glitters with a variety of finishes, including holographic (such as Golden Rose), duochrome (like Dragon Scale), and multi-chrome (for example the fabulously named Witch’s Potion). The glitters are vegan-friendly and cruelty-free, and are available now on www.karlastore.co.uk .
Thursday 19th July saw a gathering of the most colourful – in all senses – characters at the Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY x M.A.C Pro Party. Guests were welcomed into an arena that took them on a journey to “Be Beautiful, Be Disgusting, Be Everything In-Between”. Inspired by the event, Theo Adams Company staged a special performance, which culminated in a live performance by vocalist Ruth Brown, accompanied by a live twelve person choir, and LOVERBOYS wearing Gary Card’s super-sized “faces” patrolled the party.
Barry M are on a mission to make foundation create healthy-looking skin on a budget. Their new All Night Long foundation (£7.99) is a smooth, creamy formulation which is foolproof to blend, and feels lightweight on the skin. It contains anti-oxidizing fruit extracts and Vitamin E to moisturise and care for skin, so you can go all night without worrying that your skin will suffer. Available from August 22nd in Superdrug.
Zoeva’s eyeshadow palettes are, by this point, iconic. A new launch from them has us very excited – the Eye See Collection features both the Eye See Eyeshadow Palette (£19.50) and Eye See Brush Set (£49). The collection is designed to mesmerise, and to inspire people to see the world’s true beauty with the heart rather than the eyes. The shades play with vision, with transformative duochrome, shimmer, metallic, and glitter finishes, and allows everyone to express their own vision and point of view. The brush set contains six brushes, including the 231 Luxe Petite Crease and the 317 Wing Liner. The whole collection is exclusive to Selfridges.
Pouty, smooth lips are pretty much a staple at this point, but how do we keep them looking so perfect? Algenist’s new GENIUS Liquid Collagen Lip – which is inspired by their fan-favourite facial serum of the same name – is formulated with the same vegan collagen and designed to target fine lines and wrinkles around the lip. It also improves the definition of the lip line, both instantly and long-term, and replenishes and revitalises lips in just ten days. The cooling ceramic tip can be used to massage and stimulate the lips, and it can be used alone or under balm, gloss, or lipstick, and is available from Space NK.
