Summer is well and truly here which means our attention swings to Austria and the World Bodypainting Festival.  Vivid art and colour descend on Klagenfurt from 12-14th July as the top talent in the bodypainting world gather once more to test their skills.  With the city also celebrating its 500th anniversary, we already know this will be a year to remember.

Before the painting action begins the organisers have a new program launching on 11th July, the day before the festival kicks off.  The Art & Commerce of Make-up, presented by The Powder Group and hosted by Michael DeVellis, will be a full day of unique demonstrations and discussions with an international panel of make-up stars.  The likes of MUFE’s Dany Sanz, editorial expert Einat Dan, and Wicked designer Joe Dulude II and more will be on hand to discuss the relationship between make-up and bodyart.

Now in its 21st year, artists from over 50 nations are expected to compete and fully celebrate the art of bodypainting, in all its guises.  Contestants across twelve categories – divided into the World Awards, Special Awards and the Amateur Awards – will battle it out to prove themselves in front of their peers.  Last year’s World Champion, Sanatan Dinda of India, will be attempting to win the title for the third year in a row amid fierce competition.  After all, last year’s Airbrush title went to first time attendee Benoit Bottala from Guadelope, proving that anything can happen.  While the painting is underway guests can enjoy international DJs and music stages, as well as  markets, fashion shows and street artists in Bodypaint City.

And how could we forget the traditional Body Circus on Tuesday?  A surreal ball, taking place at the Castle Loretto, promises to be a highlight of the week, with its incredible costumes, extreme make-up designs and extravagant bodypaints in a cacophony of noise and colour.

We can’t wait to see what this year’s competition will bring.  For more information on the festival click here.
