January 9th, 2018
It’s time to start warming up for the first Warpaint Championships of 2018 at Professional Beauty London in February. This year is Professional Beauty’s 30th Anniversary and to mark the occasion, all the themes for this year’s competitions are all based around 1988. All categories are open to both pros and students, so make sure you check the correct registration pack as, for some, there are different rules for each level.
Runway – Theme: Christian Lacroix
Two hours will be allowed for this category – 10:30 – 12:30
French fashion designer Christian Lacroix opened his haute couture house in 1975 but it was not until 1988 when he debuted his first ‘ready-to-wear’ collection. Lacroix was known for his opulent and fantasy creations that included the ‘Le Pouf’ skirt, low décolleté necklines and use of rose prints.
Film & TV – Theme: Character from an Oscar nominated movies from 1988
Two hours will be allowed for this category – 10:30 – 12:30
The 60th Academy Awards saw Cher win her first Oscar to The Last Emperor winning all nine categories it was nominated in. Other films that were nominated include Moonstruck, Fatal Attraction and Harry and the Hendersons. Please remember to check the competition pack as there are compulsory requirements for this category.
Bodypainting – Theme: The Summer of Love: Acid House and The Rave Generation
Six hours will be allowed for Pros, four hours will be allowed for students.
Two decades after the Summer Of Love swept San Francisco, it was back in the UK in 1988. It was fuelled by the rise of acid house and the growing presence of the drug MDMA in youth culture. It started the era of the rave and mass free parties. Please remember to check the competition packs as there are different rules for pros and students.
Real Beauty – Theme: Spring Wedding 1988
Two hours will be allowed for this category with a break for photography and to transform the looks – 10:30 – 13:00
The 1980s saw one of the biggest weddings in history, Prince Charles and Princess Diana. The wedding set many trends across the wedding industry throughout the decade. This category is about creating a look for real women and you’ll will be judged on your ability to bring out the subject’s features as well as application and technique in a daytime and evening look. Your versatility is challenged as you create a day and an evening look for your bride, using only FOUR items for your transformation. Pick wisely.
