Christmas Cheer

November 2nd, 2016

November 2nd, 2016

It’s (almost) the most wonderful time of the year.  Yes, Christmas is on the horizon and brands are churning out gift sets and new collections to celebrate.  We’ve unwrapped the best limited edition products to get your hands on, while you still can.

Christmas 16

In case you haven’t heard, Urban Decay are celebrating their 20th birthday by releasing some of their original shades of lipstick in the new Vice formulas.  The Vintage Vice Lipsticks (£15) come in nine shades, and the much requested Bruise shade has made a welcome return.  The subtle red/green shift in this cranberry base elevates it from your run-of-the-mill red lipstick, but we’re also a big fan of the subtle Oil Slick shade for a grungy, glossy look.

bareMinerals do wearable so well, and the pretty Be Beautiful Palette (£39) is a great combination of wearable eyeshadows and silky-smooth face powders.  Two blush shades, a bronzer, finishing powder and six eyeshadows come together in a slim, well-proportioned palette with a huge mirror – handy for a sleek, stylish Christmas party look.

ARTDECO’s Crystal Garden products are decorated with Swarovski crystals and add a bright touch to any kit.  The Crystal Garden Blusher is a really lovely mix of rose shades (and the case is re-useable with any circular powder), but our top pick are the Crystal Oil Drops.  Lightweight and packed with ultra-fine microshimmer, the luminescent pink pearly liquid is like a more fluid, updated version of Benefit’s classic High Beam.  Keep your eyes peeled, they should be arriving at BeautyBay.com soon.

We love the bright colours of MAC’s Nutcracker Sweet holiday collection.  With so many products it’s hard to pick a favourite, but the new Lipstick shades have come out as our winning products.  Saucy Little Darling (£17) is a brilliantly perky pink, so unlike the deeper tones we see at Christmas usually, but we find ourselves drawn to this bright, yet flattering, shade.

Speaking of bright, Smashbox’s Light It Up collection is a surefire way to brighten up a dreary winter day.  The LA Lights Blush Mega Palette (£39) is a nine-pan blush, bronze and highlight palette with some lovely shades.  It’s well-proportioned and could save you a lot of time digging through your kit.  Also worth checking out, even if it’s not part of the Light It Up Collection, is the Masterclass Balance and Brightening Palette (£60) which really is like a one-stop shop, containing 16 eyeshadows, three blushers, four colour correctors, six contour/highlight creams and handy face charts.  Bargain!

Too Faced’s Christmas in New York collection is almost too pretty to use – almost.  Our top pick would be the Merry Macarons Palette (£28), which has a nice mix of neutrals with pops of purple to liven things up.  The Too Faced eyeshadow formulas are some of our favourites, so this is sure to go down a storm.

We’ve been really impressed with Sleek’s new Diamonds in the Rough Palette (£7.99) from their Rockstars Christmas collection.  The four powder eyeshadows are smooth and pigmented, and the two cream textures are a nice option – but for us the winners are the metallic Lip VIP shades in Scandalous and Superstar (£5.50).  The metallic colour shift and bevelled bullets are something we’d expect from a brand at twice this price.  Run, don’t walk, to the nearest Boots and Superdrug.

YSL know how covetable their Christmas collections have become, and the Sparkle Clash releases of this year are no exception.  Proving that purple is the shade of the season, this stunning palette mixes plum and gold eyeshadows with two lip options and a shimmering highlighter/blush.  Utterly gorgeous and supremely coveted, these won’t hang around long when they reach counters later this month.

Finally, the understated NARS x Sarah Moon collection.  While the palettes are very beautiful and highly wearable, we’re drawn to the new Moon Matte lipsticks (£21).  These slim bullets are easy to use and the colours are perfect – three gorgeous reds and what might be the perfect nude shade.
