Whether it’s a subtle, healthy glow or a dewy wet look, it seems as though the highlighting craze is well and truly here to stay.  We at Warpaint shamelessly love the flattering effects of a good highlighter, and our favourites tend to come in easy-to-use stick forms, perfect for on-set touch ups.  Here’s a range of handy highlighting sticks that are sure to brighten your day.

Sonia Kashuk Luminosity Highlighter Stick (£9.55) has a creamy, natural looking formula with triglycerides, which ensure that the stick blends smoothly and adheres comfortably to the skin for a long-lasting shimmer effect.  It is a favourite of celebrity make-up artist Stephen Dimmick, who works regularly with clients such as Elsa Pataky and Brooke Candy.  Dimmick describes the Kashuk Luminosity Stick as “a lovely, subtle, easy-to-use highlighter.”  Definitely one to stock up on if you’re in the States.

For a highlight to catch the eye of bodypainters, we suggest the Kryolan TV Paint Stick (£15.50).  The special base of the TV Paint Stick allows gentle make-up application which provides effective covering with intense pigmentation and shimmer at the same time.  With over 250 shades – including skin tones, silver, green, blue, yellow, gold and many more – these sticks are perfect for putting the finishing highlights on any body of work.

Benefit Watt’s Up! Soft Focus Highlighter (£24.50) is like turning a soft-focus light on your client with its delicate champagne glow.  With a smooth cream-to-powder finish, it boasts the ability to be used on all skin tones and comes with an attached blender, meaning it is also perfect for a quick top-up on set without the need for excess products and brushes.

If you’re starting your kit and are on a budget, or indeed need an affordable highlighter in a pinch, we would suggest No7 Instant Radiance Highlighter (£9.95).  It is a good dupe for the Watts Up and is a very subtle champagne-pink, with less orange undertones than its Benefit rival. making it better for fairer skin.  However it is only available in the one shade, and doesn’t have the built-in applicator, which can make it less appealing for quick final touch ups.

The BECCA x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Shimmering Skin Perfector Slimlight (£24) is the perfect all-rounder product to throw in your kit.  Its slim design and tapered tip means that it can be easily applied to the cheekbones, the brow bone and the inner corner of the eyes with perfect precision.  The Shimmering Skin Perfector Slimlight is available in three glowing shades, with a mattified luminous finish creating a believable, lit-from-within skin finish.

For a naturally radiant touch, we suggest classic highlighter and brightener the YSL Touche Éclat (£25).  The moisturising and ultra-fluid emulsion means it is more easily blended than other stick highlighters due to its liquid consistency.  Its brush applicator also means it can be applied and blended quickly, making it the perfect product for quick illumination and touch ups on set.  It is light, luminosity and radiance at the click of a button.

For instant blending and an airbrush finish why not use… an airbrush?  The Temptu Make-up Airbrush Device (£160) is a small wireless airbrush which transforms its professional SilkSphere Make-up into a micro-fine mist that floats onto the skin, creating weightless layers of the even, thorough coverage.  With the highlighter Airpod (£28), available in 6 shades, you can achieve a perfectly airbrushed looked on the go, on set, anywhere you may find yourself needing a flawless glow.  Of course the best thing about an airbrush is that it doesn’t only allow the application of highlighter – a quick change of Airpods allows you to to add everything from foundation to blush and bronzer.

What if the best highlighter was, in fact, no highlighter at all?  For effortless enhancement, we would suggest Perricone MD’s No Highlighter Highlighter (£29).  Part of Perricone MD’s ‘No Makeup Makeup’ range, this illuminator is designed to enhance your client’s natural beauty rather than covering it; simulating youthful dewiness it illuminates and blurs the visibility of imperfections.  With its lack of dramatic shine, but rather liquid pearl pink pigment, the No Highlighter Highlighter has no tell-tale signs of shimmer or glitter, enhancing the skin and effortlessly fooling the harsh eye of the camera.
