October 26th, 2016

Calling all SFX lovers, The Prosthetics Event is making another welcome return to Birmingham on Saturday 19th November.  Hosted on the Aston University Campus, a full day of education and artistry awaits which covers the full breadth of the prosthetics and SFX industry.  Expect to see sculptors, bodypainters and monster makers in full force.

Main Stage

This year you can expect to see more talent taking to the stage than you can shake a stick at.  The 500-seat lecture theatre is hosting back-to-back demos, discussions and seminars all day – we’d recommend checking out the schedule ahead of time and arriving early as the talks are always hugely popular.  Keep checking back here for updates on the schedule.

Neill Gorton himself will be taking to the stage, along with a host of other experts including Sian Williams, Andrew Whiteoak, Rob Mayor, Rebecca Butterworth, Steve Johnson, Beth Hathaway, Chris Clarke and Rob Freitas.

Education Stage

While smaller in scale, it’s still big on ideas – the Education Stage is a platform to show, up close and personal, new work and small-scale techniques which can enrich your skillset.  Last’s year’s hit The Prosthetics Jam will be held here in the afternoon.  Click here to read more about who will be demoing.

Portfolio Surgery

One of the event’s biggest hits, the Portfolio Surgery makes a welcome return again this year.  Applications close on Friday 28th Oct, so if you fancy having your portfolio examined and critiqued by some of the best in the business then you’d better get cracking – click here to find out more.

Body Art Zone

We always love it when different techniques and skills are woven together, and the Body Art Zone will provide plenty of that.  Expect a lively carnival atmosphere and a riot of colour as talented bodyartists incorporate prosthetics in their work, to be displayed at the end of the day on the Main Stage.  Expect to see the likes of Mona Turnbull, Jo-Marie Banks, Erica Wafford and many more.  The full list of painters can be found here.

Monster Mash

This corner of the event will have your creative juices flowing, a gathering place for fans and aficionados of monsters in film and TV, concept design, masks and collectables.  Click here to learn more.

Exhibitors

Once you’ve been suitably inspired, exhibitors from across the make-up and SFX industry are on hand to kit you up.  Gorton Studios and Neill’s Materials will of course be represented, as are Tilt, Kryolan, Paintopia and bloodymarvellous among others.  You can find the whole list of exhibitors here.

It’s set to be a brilliant day.  Tickets are available here.  We’ll see you there on Saturday 19th November, 9am-5pm!
