It’s just over a week until the biggest British bodypainting event descends upon Norwich.  Paintopia is back – bigger and better than ever, with new sponsors, categories, and hundreds of excited attendees and competitors.

This year’s theme is “The Art of Music”, with the event hosted in the lush surroundings of Sprowston Manor from 8th – 10th May.  In association with Kryolan UK and Illusion Magazine, this is bound to be their biggest year yet;  artist tickets and competitor slots sold out in record time, promising three days of competition and colour.

If you’re attending the show, be sure to tag your posts on social media with #Warpaintopia and check back to see if they get featured in our review post!

Things kick off early on Friday with the Body Painter of the Year 2015 – Solo and with Assistant – categories.  From 8.30am, some of the best bodypainters in the world will compete to paint gorgeous, musical creations.  Freestyle bodypainting will also be occurring for artists own enjoyment and to show off their skills.

Saturday sees the Freehand Glitter Tattoo Artist competition take centre stage in the morning, with the theme of “Glam Rock” – we can’t wait to see what amazing, shimmering looks will unfold!  The afternoon is face-focused, with Novice Face Painter of the Year and Face Painter of the Year to be decided.  Freestyle bodypainters will also be working away all day again.

Results for Friday’s competitions will be announced at the Saturday evening event, the 1940’s Party Night!

After the (sure to be jubilant) party the night before, there’s one final day of competition left.  Attention turns to the artists of tomorrow, with the Student Body Painter of the Year and Professor’s Apprentice Bodypainting competitions occurring all day.  The Professor’s Apprentice category, in particular, looks to be an interesting one!  Under the theme “Born in the U.S.A”, Lead Artists (Professors) have been randomly matched with their Apprentices ahead of time, and together must work to create a fantastic piece.

While entry may have closed, you can find full details of all of the competitions here.

Expect to see world renowned artists – including Pashur, Nick Wolfe, Matteo Arfanotti, Maria Malone-Guerbaa, Carolyn Roper, Pinkstylist and Victoria Gugenheim – attending the event, competing, freestyling and providing demonstrations.

Demos and Workshops

Paintopia are putting on a variety of workshops and demonstrations across the three days, covering everything from eye make-up and SFX, to glitter body art and festival eye-based artwork.  You can find the details for all of the workshops here – please note that these events are open for Festival Ticket Holders only!

Paintopia are playing host a huge variety of trade stands over the festival’s three main days.  Products available include face and body paints, airbrush paint and equipment, books, magazines, make-up, kitboxes, special FX products and prosthetics.  Full details of attending brands can be found here.

There are still some tickets available for public attendance on Sunday 10th May, from 11am – 5pm, available here.  Watch some of the best artists in the world work, ask questions, be inspired and enjoy the atmosphere of the UK’s biggest bodypainting event!
