Despite the arrival of Bertha, which seemed to switch off summer momentarily, it’s still hot and humid and the city heat is not the most conducive for a full face of make-up. So as the Mercury rises both here and abroad, ever the optimists here at Warpaint, we indulge in the gentle buttery balms that tint and hydrate the lips. Add the barely-there base and you’ll make it through the day, still made up.
The new Eight Hour Lip Protectant Sheer Lip Tints SPF 15 (£20) comes in four sheer shades and utilises the original Eight Hour care with a modern colour twist. Giving lips all the long-term treatment benefits of the original Eight Hour Cream with a subtle wash of colour, the shades are Berry, Honey, Plum and Blush.
Laura’s HydraTint (£17) is a tinted balm that combines long-lasting moisture, SPF protection and soothing relief for dry lips. Fortified with SPF 15, HydraTint shields lips from everyday aggressors with broad-spectrum (UVA and UVB) protection and is enriched with Laura Mercier’s exclusive Lip Complex to keep lips soft and supple throughout the day. Shades include: Rose Tint, Bronze Tint, Plum Tint, Berry Tint, Mocha Tint, Nude Tint, Apricot Tint and Crimson Tint.
Maybelline Baby Lips (£2.99) are already a cult classic and their latest Neon offerings will be no exception. Each new Maybelline Baby Lips Electro contains a mix of conditioning honey and moisturising shea butter with an exclusive anti-ageing concentrate. The new colours have six scents, four clashing colours and two subtle translucents.
AERIN’s new Rose Lip Balm (£40) drenches lips in nourishing moisture and blurs fine dry lines. Viamerine, an organic derivative of Sunflower, helps lips look and feel smooth and youthful. The barely there pink shade adds a kiss of colour and soothes with the delicate, calming scent of AERIN’s signature floral infusion. Her Rose Lip Conditioner (£20) is a pretty, nude shade provides a touch of colour, plus intensive skin conditioners help nourish and repair lips.
Dior Addict Lip Glow (£23.50) only comes in one shade, as it’s designed to enhance the natural colour. A customised colour result is achieved, thanks to its Colour Reviver technology, Dior Addict Lip Glow reacts directly with the unique chemistry of each woman’s lips before releasing its colour ingredient. Lips seem revived from within, amazingly fresh, full and radiant. In addition, its formula enriched with wild mango and luffa cylindrica continuously protects and moisturises.
This crayon-style balm (£23) from Trish is an ultra-light yet moisturising lip colour combines the plush feel and finish of a balm with a cushion of complexion-enhancing, light-reflective colour. Plant-derived moisturisers increase hydration and improve barrier function and it has a fresh minty taste to boot.
We recently got to see the new Baume de Rose from By Terry (£35), combining the summer brights of pink and orange and well as deep autumnal tones in a buttery balm. This little pot packs a punch of colour with the sheer moisture of a balm – our favourite is Rosy Babe.
Bobbi Brown’s lip balm (£16) soothes and conditions, while working to heal dryness, flaking, and chapping. It instantly comforts with re-hydrating Petrolatum and Beeswax and soothing Aloe Vera. Over the long-term, Coffee Seed Extract helps dry lips heal, while an oil blend of Avocado, Olive, and Wheat Germ forms a protective layer. And if that wasn’t enough pampering, sunscreen helps protect against sun’s damaging UVB rays.
One Korres Lip Butter (£8) is sold every minute apparently, they come in six shades and flavours Wild Rose, Pomegranate, Guava, Quince, Mango and Jasmine and the high butter content gives a hydrated tinted finish. For the lip balm stick devotees, KORRES has just launched their Mandarin Lip Butter sticks. The moisturising and nourishing lip balm comes in six shades (of which five have SPF protection) two nude and four tinted including pink, rose, peach and purple hues (£8).
Lord & Berry
Offering a radiant veil of colour, the TWISTICKS (£13) from Lord & Berry treat lips to moisture whilst adding a hint of shine in a brilliant sheer finish. Clarins Colour Quench Lip Balms (£17) come in eight shades of shimmering transparent lip colour with a cherry scent and flavour. Lip Chic (£30) is the lightweight, glossy new lip product from Chantecaille. The revolutionary formula that achieves a buttery feel and superior shine has great staying power but is never sticky. Its unique texture is due to the balance of waxes with a high content of emollient oil that allows it to glide on easily and wear comfortably. Lips look smooth and full thanks to the plumping effect of HTM components including collagen, chondroitin sulfate and hyaluronic acid.
These tinted balms come in nine shades: Honeysuckle, Caramel Daisy, Blush Orchid, Petunia, Pink Blossom, Hibiscus, Rose, Red Dahlia, and Sweet Violet and have a hint of a tint (£5.99). Not strictly tinted but will mix with a little lipstick, Burt’s regular balms are worth more than a glance. Coconut and Pear is the latest (£3.69) and leaves lips soft and replenished with Pear Extract, moisturising Coconut Oil and softening Shea Butter and of course, Beeswax.
