In an industry dominated by US and European brands, it’s always refreshing to be able to tell the tale of a homegrown brand from an established British company.
Created in 1982, Sterex International quickly became leader in electrolysis, pioneering the disposable needle. Subsidiary company Skin by Sterex came long in 2003, quickly followed by further acquisitions, and Skin by Sterex became sole UK distributor for StageLine Professional Make Up and Skin Care product range, and owners and manufacturers of MistAir Beauty Ltd, the UK’s leading experts in airbrush equipment and products for over 25 years.
More than just an airbrush system, with the MistAir product line, MUAs can achieve six professional techniques. Whether it’s HD make up, sunless tanning, body painting, body art, hair or nail art, the systems are fully compatible and offer a choice of three guns:
SL1000 – premium multifunctional airbrush that allows for interchangeable needle and nozzle set-up, and can alter the width of the spray according to the job. A side bottle feeds for larger areas.
MA35 – great value airbrush, suitable for make-up, facial tanning, and hair and nail art, it comes with a fixed needle and nozzle set up.
Solo Pro Spray Gun – fast coverage, small and lightweight it can be used with low pressure compressors and ideal for spray tanning or large body painting areas.
There’s a choice of four compressors – from the large Pro, featuring a separate air tank and able to run up to six airbrushes at a time and the Duo, ideal for high speed tanning and can run two airbrushes to the portable, lightweight yet extremely powerful Solo Pro and the Freedom, the smallest of the compressors which is ideal for location work as it’s perfect for make-up application.
To work in conjunction with the systems, MistAir has also developed a wide range of products. The Professional HD silicone-based make up range includes foundations; highlighters and shimmers; adjusters and correctors, blushers and brows. Bases can withstand humidity and heat as well as moving with the skin. They are smudge resistant when dry and can be mixed to create personalized shades. Popular with pro-artists like Shaunna Harris, “I find their silicon-based make-up flows very easily through the airbrush producing a flawless finish on the skin, ideal for high definition,” explains the BAFTA and RTS award winning MUA.
For the body painters out there, MistFX is an extremely versatile, durable and professional range of water-based body paints with incredibly high pigment concentration. Available in 60ml bottles, these aqua body paints are suitable for use with brush, sponge or airbrush to produce instant, true, strong, explosive colour time after time. Long-lasting, smudge resistant and durable whilst feeling soft and comfortable against the skin, designs will stay all day without fading or cracking and are simply removed with soap and water. MistFX can be thinned with distilled water to suit personal preference. Carolyn Roper, double world body paining champion, is a big fan, saying, “I believe that MistFX aqua body paints are one of the most exciting developments to happen within the body painting industry for several years.”
Not simply confined to skin, Airlites is the new temporary hair colour with an exclusive range of chic stencil designs, natural shades and traffic stopping colours to create dramatic looks in seconds. Simply shampoo out to remove, leaving no telltale residue. For nails, MistAir has some stunning colours and effects, paints, stencils and equipment to create sharper more accurate designs compared to the traditional hand painted techniques. Clever stencils and the resilient Isopropyl alcohol-based paint form the basis of MistAir’s body art products.
