The UMAe make-up competition created by Siân Richards of London Brush Company and hosted by Warpaint is less than two weeks away and budding entrants have until Friday 21st March to submit their entry forms for consideration. With a host of stellar talent to see at the show and the judging line-up to be announced next week, competitors will be able to demonstrate their skills in front of their peers.
The competition really puts MUAs through their paces and simulates the experience of a movie or TV set with the timings and conditions of an authentic make-up call replicated. Contestants are required to design and make-up a battle hardened military or naval character from the time of the Napoleonic Wars. The background to the era allows for creativity in the design and execution of the look, and costume is a key element to the finished effect.
The look will be created in two phases with 60 minutes allotted for the make-up and 40 minutes for the hair. Key elements must include character make-up; stretch and stipple ageing; a prosthetic piece; wounds, burns or bruising; hand laid hair; full pastiche moustache or beard on lace; tattoos; old scars; ill health and ethnicity change. The hair is to be styled or a wig applied within the allotted time.
Full details of the competition are available from here.
