Bright eyeliner is the new statement look.  Forget lips and cheeks, a bold flick in an intense shade have set our eyes alight.  Warpaint welcomes colour to our lids.

Whilst Spring might not quite be here yet, the pastel hues and bright shades are already being rocked on the catwalk, the red carpet and the high street.  Spring is the time for something new, and what better way to look at things differently with a bright hue adorned on our peepers.

Smokey eyes are all the rage for a night out, but to rock a fresh new look swap the black for green, blue or any other wild colour that takes your fancy.  Editorial looks benefit from a bight pop of colour, fashion shows love the drama of coloured eyeliner and your bridal client might just want to stand out on the biggest day of her life.  Vibrant jewel like tones make the eyes appear brighther in a beautiful, modern way.  Warpaint picks the best in bold brights.

blue 2

“Blue,” we hear you exclaim.  Well this is not the blue eyeliner of old; this is electric, cobalt and sapphire navy designed to make eyes pop.  Pair with a pale eyeshadow and sheer lipstick to play up the effect.

Bourjois Khol and Contour Pencil in Blue Espiegle (£4.99)

This bright eyeliner was used at London Fashion Week and is a hot shade for Spring.  Waterproof and metallic, this creamy pencil will create maximum impact on all eyes shades, while brown eyes will really pop with this colour.  If blazing blue seems a bit daunting, layer it over black or brown liner for a softer effect.

Laura Mercier Creme Eye Liner Cobalt – (£18.50)

LM Creme Eye Liner_COBALT

Ultra smooth and creamy, this crème eye liner applies with the ease of a gel and the precision of a liquid liner.  Smudge- and transfer-resistant, this beautiful vibrant cobalt blue delivers immediate colour impact and intensity.  The semi-matte, non-oily finish with full coverage colour is practically foolproof.

KIKO Make Up Milano Glamorous Eye Pencil (£4.20)

A true electric blue with a high concentration of pigment for a beautifully luminous effect, this is available in 16 colour varieties including gold and silver.  KIKO have really taken their eyeliners seriously in this range.  The waterproof formula holds for up to six hours, is easy to blend and leaves a semi-soft line.

Think of purple as the beginner’s bright liner.  If your client has never worn anything so bold or won’t opt for blue, purple is the perfect choice.  It’s universally flattering and, of all the jewel hues, it appears the least shocking when worn in a bold design such as a feline flick.

Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof in Iris £19

An extremely luminous violet plum blue, these are the newest long lasting eyeliner releases from Chanel.  To add depth and playfulness, run a line of colour along the base of the lashes to enhance eye intensity.  It’s available in four other original shades to match the eyeshadows and mascaras of the collection.

Clinique Quickliner for Eyes Intense in Intense Plum (£15)

clinique intense plum

Richly pigmented for excellent colour payoff, this intense plum shade from Clinique is phenomenally versatile.  With a 12 hour wear time and unique smudger tip for effortless blending, the colour is elegant and eye-amplifying.  The soft creamy texture makes it simple to apply and stays true to the colour in the pencil.

BECCA Ultimate Creme Eyeliner (£16)

This is a true 3-in-1 product, blending the versatility of a cream liner, kohl liner and eye shadow.  Brush on smooth, dramatic strokes, smudge for a smoky kohl effect or glide over lids for an intense shadow.  The formula allows time to blend, adjust, and build colour before drying to a waterproof, smudge-proof finish.  Belle Epoque is a supremely flattering brown based purple which can also be used on the waterline for added drama.

white eyeliner

2true Twist n Line Eye Definer (£1.99)

2true eye definer white

Enriched with softening bisabolol, this clever definer cares for skin on the delicate eye area.  The rich precision liner comes in a handy wind-up pen so there is no need for sharpening.  Water resistant and easy to blend, these are some of the best cheap alternatives we have tried.  White eyeliner is great to make tired eyes appear instantly more awake, can conceal any redness by placing on the waterline and when winged out gives your look added oomph.

green eyeliner

With most bright eyeliners, but particularly green, you don’t want the final look to be tacky.  For editorial looks you can of course also pair the bright eyes with bright lips, but for wearable everyday looks, coloured eyes work best when teamed with natural make-up and relaxed hair, so it doesn’t look too done.  Smudge out the green line along the lashes for that ethereal look, and add lots of mascara if you are building an eye that is more dramatic.

NYX Cosmetics Jumbo Eye Pencil in HorseRaddish (£5.00)

This radiant green also doubles as a shadow, gliding on effortlessly without pulling, tugging or fading.  There are 28 other shades of the rainbow to excite you as well.  Even though Radiant Orchid ( was declared the colour of the year by Pantone, Warpaint still loves the 2013 coleur du jour Emerald Green and all the light and dark guises it comes in.  Green has so many shades from khaki to lime that it is sure to suit every skin tone.

Lancôme Artliner 24h Liquid Eyeliner (£20)

This is a toned down turquoise with a subtle shimmer like finish.  The patented precision felt tip applicator enables you to achieve that neat line that can sometimes be elusive.  Smudge-resistant and promising 24 hours of waterproof perfection, this is great to use on those are nervous about wearing brights, as it is impactful without being over the top.

Inglot Colour Play Eyeliner in 201 ($12)

This colour is definitely for the risk-takers not the wallflowers.  Inglot has eye-catching, highly pigmented eyeliners sure to define while leaving a creamy, but long-lasting texture.  With colours as bright as this, an eye primer is essential to ensure that the colour doesn’t run or move even if it is smudgeproof.  Create the perfect summer look, when wearing heavy eye makeup is just too much.
