Over the past few seasons, texture has come to the forefront of lipstick formulations, changing the feeling of both editorial and runway looks, and their finishes have translated into the mainstream. Lipstick looks are now based on the occasion and the amount of maintenance it is likely to need. Instead of undertones, texture reigns supreme with many brands taking inspiration from luxury fabrics and everyday objects. As a result, cosmetic players big and small are unveiling offerings that incorporate dense pigments, sophisticated finishes and hybrid formulas. Warpaint takes a peek.
SILK
NYX Professional Xtreme Lip Cream (£7)

SHEER

These Lip Glacé’s come in a variety of coverage and finishes, and any skin tone is virtually enhanced by creating a subtle contrast in texture. The sheer finishes apply smoothly without feathering or bleeding, creating the appearance of fuller lips. High shine gives a transparent look while still imparting a dose of colour.
SUEDE
Revlon ColourStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick (£8.99)
This is a modern textured lipstick that keeps lips conditioned. METALLIC

New from Estée Lauder, Pure Colour is a uniquely modern cream based lipstick packed full of Hyaluronic Acid dispensed through a Time Release Encapsulated Moisture delivery system. High intensity colours from reds to corals, pinks to nudes hug the lips whilst still being lightweight and smooth. Lips are moisturised consistently for up to six hours. We particularly love the bright shades, which are densely pigmented.
GLOSS
KIKO Shine Lust Lip Tint (£9.90)
KIKO has mixed the intensity of a stick, the hold of a tint and the shine of a gloss in their newest release. One coat releases a sensual lacquered effect with a consistent wet gloss look. The water-based gel-like formula means it is unexpectedly comfortable for the wearer and holds its colour-proof finish for eight to ten hours.
SPARKLE
Tanya Burr by eyeCANDY lipgloss (£6.99)
Champagne Toast is the perfect name for this beige-apricot shimmer shade from YouTube MUA sensation Tanya Burr. The sparkle suspended in this moisturising formula has a beautiful payoff that sits somewhere between glitter and metallic. The texture is further highlighted by the gleaming pigmented finish.
