At Warpaint we adore a painted body. Inspiring and detailed, the work which goes into each creation is more often than not mind-blowing. We take a look at our newest love – The Art of Bodypainting book.
Our obsession with bodypainting is always growing. From our love of the World Bodypainting Festival to our fascination with the body painting that takes place on film and TV sets, Warpaint is transfixed with this detailed make-up art form. Someone who shares our passion is Peter de Ruiter, the man behind the book The Art of Bodypainting.
Peter is a writer and photographer, interested by the beauty of bodypainting. Intrigued by how the art can play tricks on your eyes and how the images can play hide-and-seek within one photograph, Peter has collected 120 masterpieces by 45 leading artists from all over the world and designed a covetable book to inspire others.
The Art of Bodypainting covers the history of this elegant art form showing how humans have painted their faces and bodies from ancient times to beautify themselves or to bring magical powers. The book also contains many examples of how bodypainting is used today for art, commerce and to express ideals in books, albums and films. If you want to further explore the subject, Peter has provided an extensive list for further reading and watching.
A definite conversation starter, this elegant coffee table book presents a refined state-of-the-art collection of images created through the fruitful cooperation between bodypainting artists, photographers and models. The images convey messages of beauty, fun and sometimes sensuality; timeless and exquisite examples of how make-up can transcend our expectations.
