Beautiful Make Up

Bridal make-up is one of the most reliable job sources for MUAs, with the majority of brides-to-be placing their trust in a professional for their big day.  There are plenty of issues to take into consideration with each job – skin type, environment, the client’s desired look – and what is actually achievable!  Whether you are just starting out or looking to add another string to your bow, Warpaint rounds up some of the best available courses for bridal make-up training.

If you are interested in specialising in bridal make-up, or already have a good foundation of practical knowledge to build on, then the Bridal Makeup and Hair Specialist Certificate from AOFM could be the right course for you.  As detailed, five day course, the variety of high-profile artists who lead the days give you an expansive repertoire to draw on, including bridal hair training to enable you to offer an even greater range of services to your client.  The school’s philosophy of teaching industry understanding through artists currently working within the industry will stand you in good stead, with solid and impressive experience to learn from.

Alternatively, bridal make-up training is included within the Advanced Makeup Artistry Certificate, a 12 day intensive course which is designed to educate novices to a high standard across a range of skills, from the basics to period make-up, ethnic make-up, fashion and commercial make-up techniques.

The London Make Up School

With commitment to keeping classes very small to capitalize on learning, the London Make Up School also only use live models for their courses, instead of students working on each other, which also maximises students learning capacity.  Unlike many of the training facilities in the UK, some of the courses at the school are also run on demand, which is extremely useful for those with tight or busy schedules.

The school offers a range of intermediate-level courses, perfect for those looking to add some extra skills to their range.  There is the option of the Bridal Makeup Course, which costs £545 plus VAT for a two day course, or the Bridal Hair and Makeup Course for a more in-depth education.  This course lasts five days and costs £1,250 plus VAT, and offers the addition of hair up-do training.  There are also two corresponding courses available with a particular focus on Asian make-up and hair techniques: the Asian Bridal Makeup Course and the Asian Bridal Hair and Makeup Course.  The school also offers a Beginners course in Henna to accompany these specialised Asian courses.

The Session School

Founded by expert Dani Guinsberg, The Session School is an excellent choice for beginner artists. The Bridal Makeup Course is aimed to provide a solid understanding of the basics of make-up, as well as the detailed teaching of bridal techniques.

The course runs for five days, in small groups, and each participant receives a professional brush kit and a make-up kit worth £500 to use with their newly-learnt skills.  Along with a BABTAC accredited certificate, The Session School is also dedicated to helping course participants form industry contacts to help them break into the industry.

Alternatively, the School offers Private Bridal Make-up Lessons, for either brides themselves or artists who perhaps need a bit of coaching but who don’t want, or need, to commit to a full course. A two hour lesson costs £250, which is a one-to-one experience, tailored to what you would like to learn.

Based in South East London, the week long Weddings option is a stand-along element that also forms part of the longer 12 week media course.

Value for money, in reality this is three courses rolled into one, combining make-up looks, dressing long hair and an introduction into using airbrush.  Looking at the whole picture, this takes into account the personality of the bride and the look she would like to achieve, the style of the dress, veil, hair accessories and the venue.  You will learn skills and techniques to help the bride achieve her dream, creating flawless looks to treasure forever.  Priced at £1,500 for the week, this also includes the cost of the airbrush.

The course costs £570, and consists of a mixture of demonstrations and practical sessions.
