With a week to go before the deadline for the Warpaint London Make-up Competition at Professional Beauty London, entries are coming in thick and fast. The four categories have attracted large amounts of interest, and no less so than the head judges who will be selecting our winners.
Judging the Real Beauty category, Warpaint welcomes back, skincare expert and international MUA Armand Beasley. The official celebrity make-up artist spokesman for the BAFTAs in 2010, Armand has also worked on many other red carpet events including the Oscars.
Armand has created looks for Hollywood royalty like Goldie Hawn to international royalty including HRH the Sultanah of Pahang. Closer to home he has worked with Myleene Klass, actresses Angela Griffin and Michelle Keegan and singing sensation Lesley Garrett, as well as a range of high profile UK businesswomen.
He has extensive training in skincare, make-up and fragrance with the UK’s major cosmetic companies and is regularly approached for expert commentary on beauty and style across the media.
Heading up the SFX side of the competition is Mike Peel. As a freelance special effects artist and artistic director of Rogue Creations SFX, over the years Mike has worked for many of the top effects companies in the UK with credits on The Descent, Harry Potter, V for Vendetta, Casino Royale, Evil Aliens and many more.
Rogue Creations SFX has been involved in creating all manner of special effects, make-up and prosthetics, creatures, props, models and sets for the film, TV and entertainment industry. Most recently Mike was make-up FX supervisor on Knight of the Dead with other credits including The Zombie King, providing blood and gore FX for a music video for the band Axewound, creepy puppets for the British anthology horror Three’s a Shroud, prosthetics and props for Arkham Sanitarium, an anthology project based on the work of H.P. Lovecraft. Other creations have included a killer crow scarer for the indie horror The Scarcrow, providing various FX for Dead Wood, hordes of the undead in The Zombie Diaries and was SFX Co-ordinator for the special effects in the recently released psychological thriller Dead End.
Amongst the film work Mike also writes an FX column for the UK magazine Shock Horror Magazine and is also a tutor for Raindance and a teacher of make-up effects.
For the Fashionistas, we welcome Heidi Scarlett King. Aussie-born MUA Heidi has over 12 years experience in the world of fashion, celebrity & TV make-up. She’s a regular on ITV’s This Morning show as a resident Beauty Expert offering the latest looks and make-up trends. With countless fashion shows, editorials, red carpet make-ups and TV productions under her belt, Heidi is the go-to artist for all things beauty.
Editorial work is judged by Dani Guinsberg, one of the UK’s leading make-up artists whose work features regularly in magazines such as British Vogue, Teen Vogue, GQ, Esquire, Stella Magazine, ES Magazine, British Cosmopolitan and British Marie Claire.
In addition Dani is CEO, Creative Director and founder of The Session School, which she launched in 2008, and is currently one of the judges for Instyle magazine beauty awards.
Dani’s advertising clients include Marks and Spencer, New Look, John Lewis, Barry M Cosmetics, BHS, Evans, Debenhams and Boden.
Her work for magazines and commercials takes her around the world on location, and when she is not jumping on and off a plane or in and out of a studio, Dani is teaching at The Session School. Dani is passionate about education and has become recognised as one of the top make-up teachers in the UK, and internationally.
