The columns inches ran for as long as the red carpet for this year’s first major Awards night, the Golden Globes. Held at the Beverley Hilton in LA, the great and the good of Hollywood and beyond dazzled in designer gowns, diamonds the size of your average mortgage. But here at Warpaint we were only interested in the make up, well and a few of the weird and wonderful speech moments, “What is Philomania, Leo?”
So we’ve scoured the pics and come up with our top 25 favourite beauty looks and believe us – it’s all bang on trend.
In The Nude
The nude lips was big news, by far the most popular choice. Both Reese Witherspoon and Amy Adams were wearing Laura Mercier. For Reese, her make up by Mai Quynh wore Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour in Play (£20) and swept with Mercier Lip Glace in Bellini (£18.50) and applied Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Powder Bronzer. Amy’s MUA Stephen Sollitto again used Bronzer, this time Laura Mercier’s Bronzing Pressed Powder in Matte Bronze (£26) with nudish orange lips. Hourglass cosmetics created Amy Heard’s look. Her nude lips were actually Hourglass Trace Lip Liner in Bare, followed by Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick in Whisper. Bronzer was key to Amber’s look too; Sollitto used Hourglass Illume crème to powder Bronzer Duo on her cheeks and swept over with Ambient Lighting Powder in Ethereal Light. Allison Williams’ slick back hair drew attention to her beautiful make up. With all the emphasis on her blue eyes, lips worked perfectly in a warm coral nude. Emma Roberts offset her dark eyes with the perfect matte nude whereas Margot Robbie opted for subtle natural looking make-up that was all about showing just what a beautiful girl she is. Kelly Osbourne sported some incredible lashes and matched them against the nudest of nude matte lips. Looking tanned and bronzed Heidi Klum was every inch the Californian gal, looking sun-kissed with nude lips and emphasis lashes, this contrasted with Robin Wright, who looked stunning in pale gold, with a column dress and simply nude make-up.
Smokin’
Hair back in a bun, the sultry Mila Kunis really rocked the smoky eyes look that matched her Gucci gown and skin tone impeccably. Julia Roberts has lost none of her glamour, despite being a mother of twins. The stunning actress wore a black and white Dolce & Gabbana gown and matched her make up with coral nude lips and the boldest of smoky eyes. Ex-pat and English Rose, Kate Beckinsale also went smoky, but with softer brown shades around the eyes but opted for the coral nude lip. Olivia Wilde also went for a smoky brown eye make up and with just a dusting of bronzer, matched her lips with a bronze nude.
Summer Brights
Bright pinks, reds, corals and pastel hues have been all over the S/S 14 collections; perfect examples on the red carpet include 12 Years of Slave star Lupita Nyong’o who matched her coral coloured gown with a perfectly match coral lip and beautiful lashes. Sandra Bullock embraced Radiant Orchid with bold pink lips to match her plunging gown in the same shade. Best Actress winner, Cate Blachett so simply so elegant with an Armani lace gown, simple dewy skin and perfect pink S/S 14 lips. Big lashes, peachy cheeks and warm pink lips has all the ingredients of the perfect spring look as worn by Jessica Chastain. There’s just a suggestion of pink in the red on Zoe Salana lips, it’s all she needed as her amazing complexion was simply glowing in minimal powder. We particularly liked her Parisian eye flicks too. Helen Mirren also sported some rather gorgeous emerald drops and her make-up, embracing the soft pinks of S/S 14 was understated and effective – she looked fresh faced and glowing.
Blood Red Lips
Best supporting actress winner, and the definite darling of the day, Jennifer Lawrence contrasted the enormous emerald drop earrings with wine coloured red lips. One of the boldest choices of shade on the night, Jennifer kept her skin dewy and bronze-free to give significant contrast. Red was also the lip colour of choice for Zooey Deschanel for much more of a poppy than Jennifer’s Bordeaux. In her stunning if not a little unorthodox Christian Dior gown, Emma Watson matched her bold gown with matte red lips and lush lashes. Pregnant Drew Barrymore’s dress was resplendent in radiant orchid flowers, mixed with the perfect poppy red, the colour her MUA chose to highlight on her impeccably applied red matte lipstick. Taylor Swift also matched her lips and gown and went deep scarlet.
