After 10 years of teaching in Chesham, Gorton Studios, the school founded by prosthetics and SFX expert Neill Gorton, is venturing to the South Western corner of England and opening a sister venue in Falmouth, Cornwall in spring 2014.

Set amongst the galleries, craft boutiques and the thriving art community of this university town, Falmouth’s campuses have strong film, art, design and media faculties.  For generations artists have retreated to Cornwall to be inspired by its 300 miles of coastline and rugged landscape, making it the logical choice for a second Studio.
Chesham will continue to teach the 7-week courses that deliver the workshop-based skills required by prosthetic technicians to work in FX studios, while Falmouth will play host to the creative elements; techniques used in front of camera in film, TV, theatres, catwalk, media, fashion, music promos, photography and live events.  This include the flawless application and colouring of prosthetics, making and applying the perfect bald cap, airbrushing skills, stencilling, texturing, hand-laying hair, direct applied FX, casualty FX, body painting, tattoos, ageing, character techniques and much more.

Both studios will also run a selection of short courses in various subjects, beginning with Boot Camp in Falmouth.  Taught entirely by the man himself, this five day intensive prosthetics course is fast paced and great value for money.  Running from 31st March to 4th April, Neill covers the techniques he uses to create his award winning character prosthetic make-ups and is ideal for those with some previous experience.  The teaching will be predominantly based on demonstration and participants will have the opportunity to produce, cast, apply and colour a transfer appliance.   There are 18 places available on this course, which costs £535 + VAT.
