Professional Beauty rolled into Manchester this weekend. With tens of thousands of visitors coming through the doors over the two days, it really was a world of beauty. Warpaint spent Sunday 13th October in the company of some of the best MUAs the North West has to offer together with a very special guest assistant.
First up was Jackie Sweeney assisted by Vicky Peters from Wigs Up North, whose mesmerised us with her dexterous fingers, while regaling us with incredible stories of the challenges of theatre life included a complete wig change on a moving and singing actress on Phantom of the Opera
MUA sisters, Charissa and Rihanna Frend took Halloween make-up to a whole new level with some incredible SFX make-up. The use of latex to mimic second degree burns was utterly amazing and believable.
Next came the inspirational Collette Casey who captivated our audience with tales of working with some of the biggest magazines and photographers in the business whilst demonstrating how to turn the loosest of briefs into a finished look.
Finally the über-cool, mega-talented Armand Beasley created a glamourous wearable look on Professional Beauty Deputy Editor, Suzanne Braithwaite. His able assistant was none other than Coronation Street’s Catherine Tyldesley. Once the audience had got over the shock, they were fascinated to see Suzanne transformed.
Warpaint’s Conference will be back next year at London 2014 on 23rd and 24th February. Held over 2 days, speaker information will be released soon.

Charissa and Rihanna were so professional and yet ever so approachable, I came to have a better understanding of how to apply prosthetics and how best to create some scary looks for Halloween, and I walked out so glad I attended. I only wish I had come across such a fab duo say 20 years ago I feel as though my path would have been very different…Many many thanks and I hope my ‘monsters’ will do some justice to the tips I picked up for my Halloween haunted walkthrough week Friday…
